Refreshing your home for spring

Every spring, I have this urge to buy some new and fresh home accessories. Just to refresh the style and give it a little make over. Do you have this too? When all of a sudden you feel a bit of a need for decluttering, getting rid of broken and unloved things, putting winter clothes away and bringing the spring and summer ones out. I personally as much as I love taking them out at the beginning of the winter, just as much love putting them away. In spring I wear lighter fabrics and colours so I like to give a new look to my home too.

It does’t have to be too pricey

It’s great if you have favourite things but sometimes it’s good to have a new statement piece, try a different colour or add a few pretty accessories. It doesn’t mean, that you have to spend a lot of money. And of course there are a few items, you don’t want to change every year and you just simply want it to be good quality. Like upholstery, blinds and larger furniture pieces. But I have a few ideas for how to give your home a spring makeover, not spending too much on it and get it done instantly.

Buy some indoor plants. I particularly love the ones that are giving you flowers every now and then. Specially orchids since they tend to be bloom in the last few weeks of the winter and beginning of spring filling the room with colour and softness. I also love having fresh cut flowers and in spring all the beautiful hyacinths and tulips are in season. Buying a small bouquet at the florist and putting it into a vase at home instantly lifts my mood.

Colour coordinate. I’m all about pastel colours at the moment but not the 90’s kind of ice cream shades. I love pinks and soft greys. So I would combine a beautiful soft silver grey shade curtain with pink soft furnishings such as cushions, bed throws or a macrame hanging on the wall. Even better if you use ombre shades of two colours.

Refresh your walls. You don’t have to paint the whole place though! Just one wall in the living room and another one in the bedroom maybe. Give a little bit of colour to it and again, use colour coordination. A lovely spring colour will fill the room with life. And it takes a few hours of work really, but the result will make a difference.

Declutter. Now, I’m not going to give you the Marie Kondo – esque rigid requirements here. Just get rid of what you don’t like, don’t use and doesn’t work anymore. I’m sure you’ll find a few things if you take a good look. So be realistic, and give some things away you can do without. It will feel good and will make your home look fresher and cleaner.

Spring cleaning. Our grandmothers swore on it, now it’s time to put it back in use, if you skipped it for a few years. It helps to reduce allergy symptoms. It reduces the stress and increases productivity. If you really hate to do it, treat yourself to a few hours freedom and pay a cleaning company. Your home deserves it and you deserve it too. Adding some spring scents when it’s finished will put the crown on your refreshed home.
