Planning a holiday in the 21st century is easier than ever before. There are several review and booking websites available, and you can search for discounts, even get alerts on flight prices on social media or in email. If you are a budget traveler, you might want to take advantage of the technology and plan your own getaway, saving a lot of money each time. Below you can find five ways you can make technology work for you and save you money.
Cut the Travel Agents
If you are not prepared to pay the salary of a travel agent, you can do the legwork yourself. There are several booking sites online that allow you to compare the ratings of different hotels, as well as prices. You can find out more about your destination than from any print travel guide by browsing the internet. Sign up for travel blogs and search different online magazines for inspiration.
Sign Up For Deals
You can also create an alert for price drops and special offers. Unsold hotel rooms that are standing empty are advertised on last minute sites and voucher pages. If you would like to find a great deal, find offers here. You can filter your results on discount holidays based on duration, destination, and rating, when using a price comparison site, so you can tailor the holiday to your needs.
Stay Flexible
One of the best ways of saving money on travel is to be flexible with your trips. Try to search for flexible or alternative dates, and try to book holidays at times when families are busy. If you don’t have children yourself, the best time to go away would be when the kids are in school, as the demand is lower, and you are more likely to be offered a cheaper rate.
Stay With Friends
Accommodation booking is one of the most expensive parts of holidays. Travelling should not only be about popular tourist destinations. If you are prepared to take an unusual holiday, check where your friends are currently living, and arrange a swap. Invite them to your home and offer to be their guide, showing them all the local attractions, and in exchange they will do the same. You can simply get a few days off and pay for your flights; the rest is all covered.
Travel in Groups
Travelling with friends has several benefits. You can take advantage of group booking discounts, and even rent a villa cheap with several bedrooms and bathrooms instead of paying for separate hotel rooms. The total cost of everyone’s holiday will be significantly lower. Take turns doing the shopping, and share the cost of expenses, such as insurance and car rental. You can book a holiday villa by the sea with a swimming pool and take turns cooking meals and looking after the kids, so you can all have a relaxing few days
Saving money on holiday deals is easy if you know which online tools and apps to use. Team up with your friends and cut the cost of going away. Sign up for deal alerts and keep an eye on flight prices.

This is so useful ! Completely agree with the cut the agency costs. So much cheaper to create your own travel package, no doubt !
We’ve definitely found villas to be better for saving money, and it’s great just to have your own place! Same with being flexible, we always look for holidays during more of the ‘off season’ now to save on money. Great tips!
