I’ve been a big fan of BAM socks for years, I bought a few pairs years ago for my husband. At first, he was laughing at the bamboo socks as if they are just some new hippy thing I happened to found. And then, he started to wear them. .. He’s became a convert in a day. Ever since, he never bought NOT bamboo socks! Bamboo socks are super soft, they last long and because of their antibacterial properties, they solve the problem of smelly feet.
Bamboo Magic – Bamboo Clothing Review
Bamboo is one of the most sustainable natural materials, I wrote about this a couple of times previously on the blog.
7 reasons why bamboo is one of the most sustainable material on Earth:
- It grows rapidly and cheaply, for a bamboo plant to reach harvesting age takes only 3-5 years
- It very resilient, it can grow in a wide range of environments
- Doesn’t require pesticides or chemical fertilisers to grow
- It requires no irrigation and rarely need it to be replanted
- It releases over 30% more oxygen into the atmosphere compared to an equivalent mass of trees or other plants
- It can grow in poor soil and a great soil erosion inhibitor
- The production into fibres has lower environmental impact than other forms of fibre
And these days, not just socks and knickers are made of bamboo. But technology allowed us to develop bamboo fibre into other, durable textiles, suitable for making bamboo denim garments for example.
BAM Bamboo Clothing have been making different bamboo clothing items for years – including denim. I now had the chance to try out their bamboo denim and share my findings with you in this bamboo clothing review.
About BAM Bamboo Clothing
BAM has been around for a few years, born in 2006, starting with the humble bamboo socks and slowly branching out to design other garments. Now, they have a collection of design-led and high-performance and high-quality clothing line for women and men, covering sportswear and outerwear as well as tops, bottoms and underwear. And just received their B Corp Certification!
All their fleece is made of 100% post-consumer plastic, no virgin plastic used. They have partnered with Sharewear, a charity that distributes second-hand clothes for those in clothing poverty. With sustainability in their heart and already manufacturing planet-friendly clothing, they challenge themselves even further: going for net zero carbon footprint by 2030, zero waste on landfill and water and an ethical supply chain too.
Bamboo Denim – BAM Bamboo Clothing Review
Bamboo denim! How exciting, I never tried them before, so I was really looking forward receiving my gifted pair of jeans. They are a blend of organic cotton, bamboo viscose, recycled cotton and elastane. I chose the Women’s Classic Straightleg Bamboo Jeans from the collection (size 30 and long leg). It’s a classic wash, high waist jeans, fits perfectly, looks modern and laid back and a real staple in the wardrobe. Making this pair of denim takes 74% less water.
Now the first thing I need to mention is, that whilst it looks like any denim and feels like any denim to touch, wearing them feels nicer. I always found wearing a high waist jeans slightly uncomfortable. Just because of the nature of the material, it’s quite rigid. But not this one, as it’s softer and more mouldable when in wear. The shape keeps but it’s a flexible material. The texture isn’t feel that different by touching it, same thickness as a regular cotton denim but thanks to the bamboo viscose, it’s so much more comfortable when in wear! It’s not stretchy, it’s just soft.
They require nothing of a special treatment when laundering, just wash them like a regular jeans.
These jeans are certified recyclable by the Circular Textiles Foundation. Simple send them back for free when they’ve reached the end of their life using the 73 Zero Take back scheme.
I’m very happy with these!
I have also received yoga pants and a long sleep bamboo top (pictured) and they are a the usual, super soft bamboo material, fantastic quality and colours.
