The other day I received loads of avocados with my Oddbox delivery and it was clear we can’t eat them all with salads or on toast so I needed to do something else with them. Avocado hummus came to mind (also my Easy And Healthy Chocolate Avocado Mousse but let’s try to make something different now!) because it’s perfect for picnics and generally when the weather is warm. I just want to eat salads and tapas type, not overly cooked and hot food. This was the first time I made this, but there will surely be more as it’s just as easy as making hummus: you throw all ingredients into the food processor and give them a blitz. And so much better than the supermarket one!
I used two medium avocados, but you can use less or even more, depending on how much you like the flavour of avocado. I think one is not enough, it hardly even makes the hummus taste differently, two make the avocado flavour more present.
Flavouring-wise I like using either chilli flakes or chilli oil, it makes it a little more different from the regular hummus. The aquafaba is serving as an agent to make hummus smoother (that’s the way I like it.) And it’s. also nice. not to waste it. So if you like it little more grainier just leave it out of the recipe.
No one else eats this in my family, everyone else thinks that avocado is evil… So I freeze half of this batch. (When you’re doing this, use an airtight container and do not fully fill the container, leaving some space for the hummus to expand. A thin coating of olive oil over the top of your hummus will help the dip retain its moisture and not dry out during freezing.)
Enjoy!

Very simple: just add avocado to the classic hummus recipe! Delicious, healthy and easy to prepare.
- 1 400g can of chickpeas including liquid aquafaba
- 2 medium ripe avocados peeled and cored
- 60 g sesame tahini
- 60 ml extra virgin olive oil
- 60 ml lemon juice about two lemons
- 2 cloves garlic
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1/2 tsp salt
- chilli flakes optional
-
Put every ingredient into the food processor and blend them until you get the texture smooth. Put it in the fridge before serving.
-
Enjoy it with some chilli oil or chilli flakes.
