When it comes to buying Christmas presents for the children, we can all feel a bit overwhelmed: there are so many toys available and the toy makers are coming out with newer and bigger ideas how to grab parents by their wallet. Thinking of all the adverts I came across recently, I can see a terrible trend of small, plastic, collectible toys, which of course I refuse to buy. Also, I refuse to but lots of presents for the children just because we can afford. Furthermore, I refuse to buy by the not so golden rule of four gifts: something they want, something they need, something to wear, something to read. We do differently. All they get is one present, the present they ask from Santa by writing their letter. And a small stocking filler. We already discussed this a few times and my girl is certain about one thing only – otherwise keeps changing her mind – it has to be PINK, her new favourite colour.
But things sell out and I hate last minute rush for Christmas gifts too. So, popped over to Wicked Uncle’s page where we got a few presents over the last two years, since I discovered them. Wicked Uncle never disappoints: I got her a pink, sustainable, wooden toy sorted: a Janod (I’m a big fan of Janod toys) Enchanted Castle Princess playset because she loves pretending to be a princess too. I always thought my girl would never like pink and girly things – but she does. I’m all in for gender neutral toys and everything, but if that’s what she likes, then that’s what she likes. The set is made of wooden and cardboard – no plastic! Another positive is that it can be easily packed away in the box which is the castle itself. Perfect for those with small storage space, like us. These kind of toys also encourage creativity and role/pretend play which is great for children at her age.
