Happy World Environment Day!

This one turned 4 the other day. (Excuse the hairdo, she won’t have it up, she’s already a non-conformist..)
I swear she was just a squishy baby yesterday and in a blink she’s 4. In another blink she’ll be a teenager.
What will the world look like when she’s an adult? A lot of it depends on me, on us, parents, because we can make a difference TODAY.

4 today: Happy World Environment Day

World Environment Day promotes ways to improve the Earth’s environment, such as conserving forests. This year’s theme is biodiversity.

The foods we eat, the air we breathe, the water we drink and the climate that makes our planet habitable all come from nature.

Yet, these are exceptional times in which nature is sending us a message:
To care for ourselves we must care for nature.

It’s time to wake up. To take notice. To raise our voices.
It’s time to build back better for People and Planet.

This World Environment Day, it’s Time for Nature.

We can all do our bit

And so I wanted to share an idea a local mum came up with a few weeks ago. We set up a virtual charity shop where we live and invited everyone we know. Basically, we swap unwanted items and donate a small amount (charity shop like prices) to the World Land Trust.

The World Land Trust is a British registered charity active in the conservation, protection and sustainable management of natural biosystems and biodiversity. It raises money to buy land in developing countries in order to protect it; it also buys and sells carbon offsets, and runs a tree-planting operation.

I’m so happy to let you know, we have just managed to purchase half an acre of threatened habitat with their help and we’re on our way to one whole acre!
Small actions add up!

Here’s our certificate:
