Don’t Like Flying? Try Cruising! (It’s Getting Sustainable)

Some people don’t like flying for various reasons and I’m one of them. I’m a nervous flyer, I always have been and for me the “more you fly the less nervous you’ll get” doesn’t apply. I know I’m not alone with this. Another reason is that I consciously try to take less flights for environmental reasons. But I still do love travelling and I think one long journey a year or a decent summer holiday should be reasonable. So if it’s a big trip, why not try a cruise?

Cruising is getting sustainable

The future of cruising is definitely green. Even now, some cruise ships now repurpose all of the waste generated on-board by converting it into energy. Following the first ship company (Hurtigruten) going plastic free two years ago, many of them started to make similar changes. But cruise companies are making changes on other areas too, to make cruising sustainable: using low-energy LED lights, recycling hot water to use for heating, using newly-developed window coatings to reduce the need for air-conditioning and a technology is now being rolled out to power cruise ships using renewable energy sources. So, it’s all moving into the right direction!

No-fly cruises

With booking no-fly cruises it is now possible to avoid flying all together. That’s good news for people who hate flying. No-fly cruises are simply cruises that depart from and arrive back at a UK port. This convenient way of travelling cancels out all of the stress and anxiety that comes from spending time flying, from arriving at the airport hours beforehand to worrying about finding the right terminal.

It’s safe

As they say, the road is more dangerous than up in the air, but how about cruising? Well, the odds of dying on a cruise ship are roughly 1 in 6.25 million. Recent data confirms that cruising is still one of the safest forms of recreation and travel.

Dream destinations

Cruising gets you to real dream destinations. Whether it’s a special occasion such as a honeymoon, birthday or a trip off your bucket list, with cruising you can get to dream destinations without flying. The whole world can be reached from the Canary Island to the Carribean.
