With a super road network and no shortage of iconic destinations and accommodation options along the way, going on a road trip around Europe is bound to be an unforgettable experience. If you have been thinking about planning an adventure yourself, this article will provide you with a little bit of inspiration and potential route options.

Whether you decide to do the trip by car or get a motorhome from the likes of Motorhome Freedom, there are journeys out there to suit every sort of traveller. So, let’s dive right in and get started!

Route 500 – Germany

If you have ever driven on the autobahn before, you will know that they live to drive fast! However, when you are driving on Route 500, you may want to take things a little steadier so you can enjoy the iconic sights of the Black Forest around you. It is worth bearing in mind that this smooth road through the mountains can get busy during the peak months of the year, so plan your road trip accordingly.

Amalfi Coast – Italy

Driving through the major Italian cities such as Rome and Naples can be a very daunting experience because of the traffic, but the sheer drops off the cliffs of the Amalfi Coast are death-defying too! Don’t let this put you off as it is certainly one of the most memorable road trips in Europe as you journey through the steep towns with houses seemingly built one on top of the other into the cliffs.

Klausen Pass – Switzerland

A drive through the Alps is bound to be an unforgettable experience, and this particular long and winding road is up there with the very best. Each new bend brings yet more new and stunning views as you take in a number of Swiss Mountains. At the top of the pass is the historic chapel  Bruder-Klaus-Kapelle, which make a fitting place to stop to admire the distance that you have travelled to get there.

Ring of Kerry, Ireland

There is no doubt that the Irish countryside is some of the most beautiful in the whole of Europe, but this is an often underappreciated part of the world. The Ring of Kerry takes you through some of the best that the country has to offer. The 200 km loop takes you through mountains through to beaches, lakes and rivers. And there are plenty of stopping points along the way so you can enjoy the craic in one of Ireland’s many pubs.

Route Napoleon, France

A road trip for history buffs, the Route Napoleon follows the same route that the famous French leader took when he went from Elba to Grenoble. As well as running through the French Alps, you also pass through numerous rural villages which feel very much like they are remnants of days gone by.

So, if you are planning a road trip around Europe, any one of these options would make a fantastic choice. Why not start planning today?
