I’ve been properly researching the skincare products I use. There are now a couple of important factors to check before buying something new: it needs to be natural, preferably plastic free or refillable, vegan and cruelty free, just to list the most important ones. One of the big AHA! moments in the last few years I had, was discovering the fact that most common deodorants are actually pretty bad for you. In fact, they are dangerous. They contain triclosan, parabens and even aluminium amongst others. This is an expose to toxic chemicals and harmful ingredients: the skin absorbs a lot of what it comes into contact with: to the extent of over 60% when it comes to applied lotions or creams. So this is why it’s important to choose a natural deodorant.
One of the best natural deodorants I’ve tried is Fussy.
About Fussy Refillable Natural Deodorant
Fussy was founded back in 2020 and the creators behind it set up a Kickstarter campaign to bring this fantastic idea to life. Then they went on Dragon’s Den and secured the support of Deborah Meaden queen dragoness of sustainability. This really gave them the boost they needed to take off. Not a surprise there though: a fantastic idea executed in an exciting way, that really marks the birth of a new generation of deodorants.
Fussy is a refillable, natural deodorant, that is kind to your skin and the environment. With clean yet effective ingredients it neutralises the odour causing bacteria. It’s not tested on animals and the formula is vegan. The case is made of recycled plastic and of course the main feature of the product is that it’s refillable: you can simply order the refills that are coming in a little paper tube (completely compostable). Simply insert it into the reusable case and it’s ready to go. Fussy is also a certified carbon neutral company that bears the B-corp certification and it’s handmade in the UK.
There are some lovely colours to choose for the case (I remember it used to be only one or two when they started) and also quite a few different scents available, and unscented option as well.

Fussy Refillable Natural Deodorant Review
Choosing and assembling your Fussy refillable deodorant
Setting up and account and choosing is simple. Although, there are lots of nice colours and scent combinations to choose from! I really like most of them but I went for an orange case with Wide Eyed Citrus (Mandarin, Grapefruit and a hint of Black Pepper). Gorgeous combination, a really lovely scent. I like my deodorants to be citrussy.
Inserting the refill into the case is very simple: just take the case top off, pinch the sides and insert the paper tube. Ready to use.
The difference between natural deodorants and antiperspirants
The texture of the deodorant is creamy, so it’s easy to apply. I found it leaves no marks. It stays put all day I found and doesn’t melt off in warm weather either. You will find your t-shirt underarm smelling like your Fussy but that’s not a bad thing compared to sweat and it also happens with all deodorants – plus it comes out in washing without problem. Let’s note here: it’s a natural deodorant, so it works by getting rid of the body odour. It won’t stop you sweating – that’s what antiperspirants do. (There is no such a thing as a natural antiperspirant. They work by blocking the sweat gland pores, normally with the help of aluminium, which is quite harmful for our body. If you are looking for that, Fussy is not a suitable product for you but then again, you need to make that choice.) But, it will stop you SMELLING.
When switching to natural deodorant, your body will need 2-4 weeks to adjust. During this period, your body will be excreting the aluminium and other substances that have built up in your pores. So don’t fret if day one is not as it’s expected. However, down the line it will be so much better and nice.
The costs and how long it lasts
Cost-wise, Fussy is also very cost effective. The subscription starter pack cost £13 for the case and the refill. After that, there is a few options to buy your refills that will make the refills cheaper: 3 refills every 3 months for £15 (plus £1 delivery fee). You can change or skip anytime. Or even cancel. If you opt for a one off starter pack, you’ll receive one case and two refills for £20.
A refill lasts anywhere between a month or two, also depends on how frequently use it. I only use it once a day, in the morning, and swipe 2-3 times and it lasts a bit over a month.
Is it suitable for sensitive skin?
Yes, it’s formulated with sensitive skin in mind. There is a small amount of soda bicarbonate in Fussy which can lead to irritation in case of extremely sensitive skin. For this reason Fussy also developed a Sensitive Skin range which is free of bicarb. For scents, Fussy use mainly pure essential oils. Individuals can be allergic to certain essential oils – much like to anything else.
What I thought about it
Love it. Absolutely love it. Love it!
