Entrepreneurship is a challenging career for anyone to choose and as such, staying positive – particularly in the face of adversity – is a challenge in itself.
Glasgow-based entrepreneur, Gilles Baudet, knows only too much about the challenges faced by entrepreneurs, as he has been one since starting up his business in 2012. With over a decade of experience as a self-made entrepreneur, he now owns and runs several different businesses – all of which enjoy a healthy profit year-on-year, and he owes it all to his positive mental attitude.
Here are Gilles Baudet’s 6 ways to train your brain to stay positive:
1. Flip Negatives Into Positives
As an entrepreneur, it’s crucial to flip negatives into positives in every situation. Problem? Find the solution. It’s that simple. Focusing and putting your energy into negatives will only lead to more negatives. Flip those into positives and the same thing happens, only in your favour. No brainer, right?
2. Meditate regularly
Meditation is a simple and successful way to clear your mind, not just of the negative thoughts, but of everything. Entrepreneurship comes with a lot of things to think about, so clearing your mind on a regular basis will ensure that you’re working with a level head to start each day the right way.
3. Give Out Positive Vibes
The saying goes that ‘your vibe attracts your tribe’ and it couldn’t be more accurate. If you go out of your way to be positive and share positive thoughts, vibes and affirmations with the people around you, they will boomerang right back at you. This will also allow you to create a positive culture and workforce, which will be crucial to driving your business forwards.
4. Set Aside Specific Time For What You Love
In business, the working day can quickly take over and bleed into your ‘free time’. This can result in doing less of what you love that’s not work related and mentally, this does you no favours. Dedicate yourself to ‘switching off’ and doing what you love out with your workspace. This could be going to the gym, spending time with your family, booking a break, painting – anything. Whatever it is, make sure you do it to keep the endorphins flowing.
5. Look After Your Body
A healthy body creates a healthy mind, and this goes for feeling and being positive too. If you’re sat about on the couch and feeling sluggish, your mind will feel the same and will no doubt fill up with negative thoughts. Regular exercise will make you feel good on a chemical level, which ultimately impacts your mental health in a positive way too.
6. Focus On What Makes You Happy
What makes you happy will form the basis of your overall purpose and the reason as to why you get out of bed in the morning to work hard and move forward. Always keep these reasons at the forefront of your mind to retain focus and stay positive.
A positive mental attitude is key to ensuring you can retain your focus on the things that matter, especially as an entrepreneur growing a business! If you spend some time learning how to flip negatives into positives, meditating, giving out positive vibes, setting aside time for what you love, looking after your body and focusing on what makes you happy, you will be reaping the rewards of your mindset in no time.
