It’s so easy to fall into a rut when it comes to style. We end up dressing for comfort, or choosing certain items just because we’re insecure. But it’s important to care about the way we look, of course you don’t have to look like a fashion model every day, but the way we look on the outside most definitely affects the way we feel on the inside. When you know you look good, it can give your self esteem a boost and can make you feel like you’re ready to tackle whatever life throws at you. You won’t find yourself turning down invitations, or not taking up opportunities because you’re worried about your appearance when you know you can look good when you try. Maybe you’ve fallen into a bit of a rut with the way you look or have been dressing the same way since you were a teenager. Either way, here are some of the ways you can make a change!

Try a new haircut and colour

It’s fun experimenting with hair. Changing the cut and colour can make you look completely different, and so if you’re after a transformation (or just want to look your best) then this is a good place to start. If you want to keep it subtle, a trim and some highlights will freshen everything up. If you’re keen to make a big change then a dramatic colour change and length change are both options. You could lighten your dark hair, or darken your light hair. If you’ve always worn it long then go for the chop, or if you’ve had it short for years how about some extensions? Visit a salon and have them make these changes for you instead of attempting to do them yourself. You get to enjoy the pampering, and will get a high end professional finish.

Switch up your glasses

Finding glasses that suit you is all about your face shape. The trouble is, our face shape can change over the years due to aging and weight gain or loss. So glasses that suited you a few years ago might not look right at all any more. Have a browse through a specialist store like Glasses 2 You, they have a ‘virtual mirror’ which allows you to check what they will look like on you by uploading a photo. If you wear makeup, you might need to adjust your techniques to work with glasses. There are plenty of tutorials online which you could try out.

Go clothes shopping

It’s easy to get into a routine of wearing comfy clothes. When you’re busy and have lots of things to do during the day, sloppy loungewear and your old scruffy sneakers are probably firm favourites as they’re comfortable and practical. However, chances are you don’t feel too great when you catch sight of yourself in the mirror in these things. You don’t need to be glammed up and in heels every day, but there’s a way to find a happy medium between comfort and style. A plain jersey dress with a pair of leggings, a cardigan and some ballet flats for example will still be comfortable  but will make you look much more put together. Some jeggings with some flat boots and a plain top again make for a simple yet stylish outfit, you could always throw on a piece of statement jewellery or a brightly coloured bag to liven it up.
