My Ethical And Green Picks Of The Month: December 2020

shampoo bars: ethical and green picks

Gifted items.

One of my favourite thing about my blog is that I have this massive opportunity to make a difference. I use my blog to spread the word and make people aware of ethical and green issues. I find that the best way is to do this by introducing other options, that are positive choices for people and planet. We don’t have to accept and buy the goods big labels and glossy adverts are trying to sell us.

Money is a vote which you can use every time you go shopping. By using your spending power wisely you can help to create a better, healthier and greener world.

With that in mind, the idea to create a new monthly review series called “My Ethical And Green Picks Of The Month” was born. The posts are to introduce all the small shops and indie brands which produce and sells ethically produced, eco-friendly, organic, natural, cruelty – free and fairly traded goods. They are alternatives to everyday items such as fast fashion, processed food, cosmetics and cleaners containing toxins and harmful chemicals.

My aim is to inspire you to choose positive buying by choosing ethical and green picks. To reverse reducing the power of local communities, to stop overconsumption, abusing animals and wasting our natural resources. This is where my ethical and green picks excel!

Stainless steel lunchbox

My daughter loves this box as she’s a very tidy little person. She loves the divider for her sandwich bits for school lunch. Entirely plastic free, this lunchbox from Global WakeCup comes in two sizes. 800ml for children and 1200ml. The lunchbox has two compartments to separate sweet and savoury and is leak free. Easy to clean with a damp cloth, this box means no more smelly plastic lunch boxes ever again.

Sustainable fashion

Green à Porter is the epitome of inexpensive luxury, empowering you to live an eco-friendlier lifestyle without compromising your sass. Each beautiful French-inspired bag oozes Parisian style. Every bag, t-shirt and hoodie makes a difference, with a portion of all proceeds supporting charity.

Green à Porter donates £1 for every bag, t-shirt and hoodie sold to Ethiopiaid- a passionate non-profit organisation. By opening local communities’ eyes to the potential they hold, Ethiopiaid hopes to break the cycle of poverty and turn underdogs into success stories.

Natural bath salt

This beautiful calming lavender bath tea is from Life Before Plastik, a new online retailer, where you can get all your plastic free basics and more! Working with over 50 different independent UK brands, the idea was to create a place where it’s easy to shop zero waste. Brands have been carefully selected, so they can be trusted to be sustainable.

90% of our products are vegan friendly, with the exception being products containing beeswax. Products that do contain beeswax have been sustainably and ethically sourced and are clearly marked. None of their products have been tested on animals and they are all completely cruelty-free.

Shampoo and soap bars for children

Really filling the gap for eco-friendly, natural and plastic free products that are designed for the children’s delicate skin, Rowdy Kind is really raising the bar. Their Hair & Everywhere Bars are the appropriate pH level. They are made with allergen-free scents and the highest-quality gentle cleansing ingredients. They have no sulfates, parabens or PEGs. They are also plastic free, vegan-friendly, cruelty free, sustainably sourced, and biodegradable. Handmade in the UK.

Rowdy Kind gives back too: exactly one month after their launch in March 2020, they donated all of their profits from their first production run to the Surrey Care Trust to support families in need during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Books for children

We received a few new books written by Matt Lucas: Merry Christmas Baked Potato and My Very Very Very Very Very Very Very Silly Book Of Jokes – we enjoyed reading them both!

Actor, comedian and writer Matt Lucas also released a special Christmas charity single ‘Merry Christmas, Baked Potato’, with all proceeds going to FareShare. FareShare is the UK’s national network of charitable food redistributors, made up of 18 independent organisations.
Together, they take good quality surplus food from right across the food industry and get it to almost 11,000 frontline charities and community groups. The food they redistribute is nutritious, in-date and good to eat. It reaches charities across the UK, including school breakfast clubs, older people’s lunch clubs, homeless shelters, and community cafes. Every week FareShare provides enough food to create over a million meals for vulnerable people.
