One of my favourite thing about my blog is that I have this massive opportunity to make a difference. I use my blog to spread the word and make people aware of ethical and green issues. I find that the best way is to do this by introducing other options, that are positive choices for people and planet. We don’t have to accept and buy the goods big labels and glossy adverts are trying to sell us. Money is a vote which you can use every time you go shopping. By using your spending power wisely you can help to create a better, healthier and greener world.
So come in and check out my ethical and green picks July – August 2020!
With that in mind, the idea to create a new monthly review series called “My Ethical And Green Picks Of The Month” was born. The posts are to introduce all the small shops and indie brands which produce and sells ethically produced, eco-friendly, organic, natural, cruelty – free and fairly traded goods, that are alternatives to everyday items such as fast fashion, processed food, cosmetics and cleaners containing toxins and harmful chemicals.
My aim is to inspire you to choose positive buying by choosing ethical and green picks. To reverse reducing the power of local communities, to stop overconsumption, abusing animals and wasting our natural resources.
Canned shampoo and conditioner
Ksoni shampoo and conditioner are made with purely natural ingredients: ylang ylang, lavender and argan essential oils. They are sulphate, paraben & SLS free, vegan & cruelty-free. With the reusable Ksoni cap (that is is a reusable and biodegradable) you can close your can when not in use. Ksoni products are 100% plastic free of course. Cans are made of aluminium, because it’s the easiest to recycle, infinitely in fact. Cans are among the lightest containers to transport.
I enjoy using my moisturising shampoo and conditioner, they are like a real spa treatment at home!
Food waste caddy for the scraps
We do our best to avoid food waste but scraps have to go somewhere before they head to the compost or to the food waste collection.
Small enough for keeping on a kitchen counter, the EKO food waste caddy is made with antibacterial properties to keep it hygienic and easy to clean. The ‘stay open’ lid makes it easy to deposit waste whilst preparing food and the inner frame keeps bin bags securely in place.
Waterless shampoo and conditioner
Biovène Barcelona shampoo and conditioner bars are waterless, plastic free, pal oil free, compostable, cruelty free, SLS free and come in a travel friendly size.
I received the Damage Control, Coconut & Keratin set: it not only smells amazing (I love everything coconut!) but it gives my hair a lovely shine!
Hempnath bags are made with using hemp, one of the most sustainable materials. Also by promoting Nepali craftsmanship and contributing towards the economy Hempnath is one of the few fashion brands putting both sustainability and ethical values as the core of everything they do.
I received a great waist bag form Hempnath – the perfect little bag! Really beautiful item and wonderful quality with natural look.
LastSwab is a reusable, sustainable and sanitary alternative to cotton swabs, buds, and Q-tips. It helps combat the billions of single-use cotton swabs that are produced every day. There’s a Basic and a Beauty version of it: the Beauty has a smooth surface and the Basic has a textured surface. They are easy to clean an store in the little case provided with them.
Environmentally friendly oral care
Naked Company is a natural bathroom & oral care brand that’s passionate about making quality, small-batch products without the ‘nasties’. You can get their Dental Crush Toothpaste Tablets which come with or without fluoride and they also have soft bamboo toothbrushes too. Naked Company aims to remove unnecessary chemicals, reduce packaging waste and bare all when it comes to the ingredients we use and those we avoid.
I’m currently testing the Dental Crush Fluoride – and really like two things about it: it does produces some foam whilst brushing which I know many people miss with other dental tablets. The second is, that they have a decent, intense menthol taste which makes the the toothbrushing experience refreshing and very close to how it is with a conventional toothpaste. Minus the nasty stuff of course.
Fizzy water without single use plastic
Everyone knows Soda Stream and everyone wanted to have one as a child. The awesomeness of making sparkling water at home has been around for decades and SodaStream now has cooler looking designs as ever. Saying no to the flavoured, fizzy drinks coming in single use plastic bottles is easy when you have one of these at home. One reusable Soda Stream carbonating bottle can save up to 1282 single use plastic bottles from our planet per year. We love ours, not only use it every day to make soda water to drink, but it’s also helpful when you need soda water for recipes like pancakes, tempura batter – or even Aperol Spritz!
Natural and plastic free skincare
Skinsence has a wonderful range of products. They are made in small batches by hand, are truly natural, and almost all are organic and vegan friendly. They have clear labelling everybody can understand, whilst also giving great value for money with their products.
I enjoyed using their Citrus Burst soap bar – a little bit of summer packed in a little shampoo bar! Made for all hair types. Leaves hair soft, shining and manageable. Also has a fresh, uplifting aroma. Like all their shampoos it will restore your hairs natural pH balance of 5.
