One of my favourite thing about my blog is that I have this massive opportunity to make a difference. I use my blog to spread the word and make people aware of ethical and green issues. I find that the best way is to do this by introducing other options, that are positive choices for people and planet. We don’t have to accept and buy the goods big labels and glossy adverts are trying to sell us. Money is a vote which you can use every time you go shopping. By using your spending power wisely you can help to create a better, healthier and greener world.
With that in mind, the idea to create a new monthly review series called “My Ethical And Green Picks Of The Month” was born. The posts are to introduce all the small shops and indie brands which produce and sells ethically produced, eco-friendly, organic, natural, cruelty – free and fairly traded goods, that are alternatives to everyday items such as fast fashion, processed food, cosmetics and cleaners containing toxins and harmful chemicals.
Reusable sanitary pads
I’ve never had such well constructed and well fitting sanitary pads like these before. I have a different brand which is handmade and they are ok to do the job, but these Floating Lotus Reusable Sanitary Pads are so much more superior. These are made of charcoal bamboo as the top layer, microfibre and PUL as the absorbent middle and bottom layer and these are made of recycled plastic. They fold up into neat little pockets and came with a wet bag, so they are very handy to take them with you anywhere. This is the medium and large size pack of 6 pads that cost £28 which I think is an incredibly good value given the quality of the product and that you can use them for 5 years saving lots of plastic!
Elevating Black-owned businesses
Wakuda is the global marketplace for Black-owned small businesses in the UK. As a platform that connects buyers to sellers, Wakuda provides anyone and everyone the opportunity to access amazing Black-owned brands. But more than that, they are empowering the Black community and stimulating the Black economy. There are lots of wonderful items we can find – but I chose a beautiful Turmeric & Tea Tree Natural Vegan Handmade Soap – which I’m currently using and it smells gorgeous!
Sustainable and organic cotton kids’ apparel
Superstar Kids Apparel does tick all the boxes for me. I like the way that everything what’s important to know when buying clothing items – all clearly displayed on their page, because when I go online and look for similar things, it gives me all the info I need in half a minute and I’m sold. Their products are ethical and green and are sustainably made and sourced, using organic cotton. They are both fun and simple, unisex colours and powerful slogans, good quality products at reasonable price (these t-shirts were £15). They come in plastic free packaging.
Bobcat is wearing a Power to the People tee and his little sister is wearing a Mini but Mighty tee.
Compostable pop-up sponges
Composty sponges are made from natural cellulose. They are non-scratch but have a tough and textured body. Theyare fully compostable (even the packaging!)
These biodegradable sponges arrive compressed to up to 90% of their original size – this saves space in your store cupboards and reduces carbon emissions in delivery. Simply add the sponge to water to watch it expand!
I’m very impressed with this product. The sponge is better than any plastic sponge and I love the fact that 12 sponges are neatly packed in the little box, only as thick as a thin carton paper. But when I added water: look, it popped up! I also found it’s price is totally worth the money: 12 sponges for £9.90 ad they will last a long time.
Manifesto Books
We have received this beautifully illustrated book form Manifesto Books, it’s called The Baby Stardust Manifesto. From Dr. Dain Heer and Katarina Wallentin comes the sequel to the popular Baby Unicorn and Baby Dragon Manifesto books: The Baby Stardust Manifesto! It is a beautiful exploration of the unique and bright magic of this planet, and within ourselves, we so often take for granted. We enjoyed reading it at bed time! And the illustrations are magical!
