It’s that time of year when we start looking ahead and making plans. If snow flurries and grey skies have got you dreaming of your next break, there are some fabulous locations to explore in the UK. If you’re looking for ideas, here are some destinations to discover in 2023.
Coastal gems
Beach holidays may not be the first thing that comes to mind when planning a UK holiday, but there are some incredible spots dotted around the British coastline if you’re looking to plan a trip to the seaside. From the popular tourist spots of Newquay, St Ives, Torquay and Minehead in the South West and Lulworth Cove and the bright lights of Brighton on the south coast to the rugged beauty of the Gower Peninsula and the thrills and spills of Blackpool, there’s something for everyone. Visit Seahouses in Northumberland for wildlife spotting and boat trips with a view or soak up the tranquillity of the remote Hebridean islands. There’s a huge range of accommodation options to choose from by the sea, including luxury hotels and resorts, camping and glamping sites, B&Bs and houses and apartments to rent.
City breaks
London is the most popular destination for UK city breaks, but if you’ve already ticked the capital off your list, there are plenty of other bustling urban locations to visit. Indulge in retail therapy, catch a show, go to a concert or watch a game in Manchester, Leeds or Liverpool or step back in time and indulge a love of history and culture in Durham, Chester or York. Visit Edinburgh Castle and see the famous pandas at the city’s zoo or enjoy a spooky ghost tour around the mysterious, meandering cobbled streets. Bath is a wonderful choice for fans of history and literature while Newcastle is known for its vibrant nightlife. To enjoy the best of both worlds and combine sightseeing and shopping with soaking up the sun, head to Brighton.
Rural retreats
If you fancy escaping to the country, you’ll be spoiled for choice. The UK is a stunning country with endless beauty spots and natural playgrounds to enjoy outdoor activities, marvel at spectacular views or wind down and recharge your batteries. Top destinations include Dartmoor, Snowdonia, the Lake District, the Peak District, the New Forest and the Yorkshire Dales. You can choose to camp, hire a log cabin or a lodge, rent a farmhouse or a converted barn or treat yourself to a luxury spa break at a rural hotel. It’s always a good idea to read reviews before booking accommodation and to look out for sales and discounts.
The start of a new year is always a good time to think about planning your next UK break. When it’s cold outside and the excitement of the festive season fades, it’s fantastic to have something to look forward to. If you’re keen to explore the UK, there are some incredible destinations to discover. From lively cities and spectacular rural idylls to seaside resorts and quaint villages, there’s no shortage of options for city breaks, beach holidays and adventures in the great outdoors.
