Since we’re all stuck home during this lockdown and trying to home educate our children, I’ve had this idea of doing things a bit differently. You might know, that Bobcat has autism so homeschooling is a huge effort from both of us. He’s stuck with the idea that learning and any activity that looks and smells like LEARNING should belong to the SCHOOL and not HOME. This is how his mind is set up. Some things are just black or white!
This means we needed to try to get our head around how to homeschool him. I’ve decided we will work on life skills, general knowledge, science and anything else that he’s interested in. Trying to do it differently, in a more conventional way, would probably break us both. This time is for survival. We do what we can but we are not going to try too hard. And definitely not going to beat myself up on days when we only manage to do some crafts. Such as a recycled newspaper Easter egg.
Crafts are not his forte. But. it’s good for him to practice fine motor skills. Plus his little sister loves crafting so we can all join in. He doesn’t like fine motor activities. Only if I try to wrap it around some special interest he’s willing to join. Luckily, Christmas and Easter traditions are close to his heart for their repeating appearance, the presents, the treats to eat.
So here’s a recycled egg craft we made. I try to recycle all sorts of house hold materials into crafts and not buying craft supply – well at least trying to. It saves money apart from recycling existing material. Newspaper (well I used a back of an unused property agent contract for this) or other pieces of printed paper is something we can all find at home.
So here goes, super simple: cut out the egg shapes, colour them as you like, add two vertical cuts to pull the jute string through and hang it. And there you have a recycled newspaper Easter Egg craft.
