Gifted items
For those, who are struggling with homeschooling: welcome to the club! It’s week 12 here in lockdown and no sign of children going back to school and nursery for the foreseeable future, looks like we will continue like this till September. At home it’s impossible and also makes no sense trying to replicate school. I mentioned a few times, that we do manage about an hour homeschooling on a daily basis, in the mornings mainly, when we can sit down and do writing, English and practise handwriting.
The rest of the day is filled with outside time (no matter the weather), screen time (both educational and games or watching TV), some crafting, free and structured play. I often try to incorporate home ed into outside time, selecting educational TV programmes (luckily Bobcat loves documentaries, especially nature documentaries) and structured play.
We have received a great little bundle from the GeoSafari range of Homeschooling Help From Learning Resources and they are a great help. We take some of them with us, like the Mighty Magnifier on our woodland walks and have a closer look at mini beasts, leaves, the woodland floor, the soil – everything really!
We use the Discovery Acorns (perfectly sized for little hands and easy to access) to collect seeds, leaves, pebbles and at home we use the GeoSafari First Microscope (up to 8x magnification) to learn more about them. Scroll down to win one! The 5-in-1 Outdoor Measure-Mate is a great way to learn, explore and experiment with measurements in a new and exciting way. It features up to five different tools, including vertical measure, callipers, a trundle wheel, spirit level and measuring stick.
Even if you just pop out to the garden: there are many things to find and learn!
