Review And Giveaway: Upcycle And Customise With Paraffle Embroidery

In Design, Green & Ethical Living by eva.katona@yahoo.com22 Comments

Gifted product.

I’ll be honest with you, dear reader. Before this, I have not done any embroidery. I can mend things with a needle and a thread (not very nicely though but still) but I never tried real embroidery. But I thought this might be a great way to pick up a new skill and use it to fix clothes on a decent way.

Paraffle Customise Kits

So for this reason I was a little nervous how much work will be involved and that it would be too difficult for me. But it wasn’t and I| was pleasantly surprised that it not only took less time as I anticipated but also using the customise kit. I chose the Ocean Customise Kit (one of their bestsellers). There’s also the Countryside Kit, the Fanciful Kit and the Tropical Kit.

We’re giving away one each – Giveaway below!

What I thought

The transfer paper makes it very easy to follow the design. Very easy to correct mistakes (I sewed a piece of back paper on accidentally, but after the soluble transfer paper is rinsed off I managed to pick the left over pieces out. I also started with a single thread and then realised I should be doubling up for thicker stems, which I did and I just went over the single lines once more. I also thought embroidering my whale didn’t take as long as I thought it would, it was complete in a few hours. It’s also great to start with these mini designs as a beginner, the success is instant and it really boosts your confidence.

They are a perfect way to customise, make a piece of clothing stand out and upcycle them.

The kit contains a mini Whale, Lobster, and Jellyfish – plus a new Turtle, Seahorse, Starfish, Shells, and Coral – so it can help you to ditch fast fashion and refresh your old clothes. It came with 8 vibrant colours of DMC thread and a needle, so you can get started straight away.

About Paraffle

Since the earliest days of Paraffle Embroidery, founder Sammy wanted to ensure that all of her kits were accessible to beginners. Each kit provids everything that you need to get started on a piece of embroidery: instructions, with photos for each new stitch used, each element is centred around people who have never picked up a needle before. Each Paraffle product is designed to develop the skills needed to design and create your own pieces of embroidery.

Paraffle and sustainability

In 2020, Paraffle became a carbon positive business – they neutralise all carbon emissions created from posting out kits; and also cover carbon emissions created when stock and other materials are sent to our studio. This is done in partnership with a charity working to reforest and prevent deforestation in areas of South America and East Africa.

All Paraffle kits are plastic free; the tote bags in our kits are ethically sourced; and the cushion covers are certified fairtrade and organic.

They have even designated some of their kits to various charities. At least 50% of the price you pay for these kits goes to the Charity.

Comments

  1. Ocean because I’d love to do something on my little boys clothes.

  2. I think my favourite would have to be Fanciful, although it is a tough decision, as I wouldn’t have picked the Ocean one, but seeing it on an item, it looks brilliant!
