T-shirts are my absolute favourite basics. I wear them with plain or even going out skirts, trousers, and jeans. They can be dressed up or down and a good design will always look cool; especially if the quality of the material lasts. And for this reason I like organic cotton the most.
Why organic cotton?
Organic cotton is the best of clothing material. Organic is the only system which eliminates highly toxic substances from the environment and instead works holistically, for the long-term benefit of people and the planet as opposed to the conventional cotton production, which relies on synthetic chemical inputs like nitrogen fertilisers and artificial pesticides. These contribute to climate change and can cause damage to local ecosystems and the health of local people. Organic cotton helps to combat climate change. Its production saves water (and helps to keep it clean), helps farmers to make living.
About JANOLIVE
JANOLIVE is a UK based clothing brand. It’s a certified organic company so they use 100% organic cotton and low-waste digital printing tech and inks that conform to the GOTS/Soil Association organic criteria. (Also, the inks contain no animal derived products and are not tested on animals.) JANOLIVE also uses renewable energy for manufacturing their items and every product is designed to be sent back when it’s reached the end of its life cycle. This is part of their efforts to promote circular economy: new products will be made from the material that is recovered. That’s pretty amazing, in my view!
JANOLIVE is also an ethical brand. Part of the GOTS certification means that the workers throughout the whole process of the production and supply chain work in a safe and fair working environment.
JANOLIVE products are produced through carbon neutral operations and even the web hosting is also carbon neutral. The orders are shipped in plastic-free packaging, employing low-waste production methods, and committing to regenerative projects like tree-planting to offset carbon emissions.
What I though about it
I picked a Women’s Very Peri Leopard Bolt T-shirt in size 10 from their collection, in grey. I do love a bolt design; it’s very cool. Very 80’s, just like this print but with a modern twist and not so noisy. Perfectly wearable everyday or even for going out.
The material is a fantastic quality, but not too thick 100% organic cotton. Not only that, but it’s also recycled organic cotton – like I mentioned before, JANOLIVE recycles the old t-shirts, so this one is made partly from organic, recycled & recyclable circular fibre. To be precise: from 50% post-consumer remanufactured organic cotton / 50% organic cotton. I do find this fact pretty amazing!
It’s comfortable and the perfect size and shape. I always prefer this type of thin neck line to the thicker line. I already washed it; it washes well. It does not leach micropalstics and harmful dyes when in the washing machine; another advantage of organic cotton. The printed bolt looks strong and thick so I expect no peeling or fading either.
