We all know that a good mattress is in valuable when it comes to your children’s good night sleep. It’s also an important investment you can make, because we don’t just buy a mattress for a few years, but you expect it to use it for a decade. Therefore, it’s important to make an informed decision before buying a a mattress, especially for your children’s changing physique over the years. It’s very important that the mattress you choose support them from when they are little through even teenage years.

My children are 7 and 9 and it was time to purchase a good quality, ergonomically supporting mattress for their new rooms. (As you know, we moved house a few months ago and there are still a lot to do!) This is something you don’t want to compromise, here’s why:

Why invest in a good mattress for younger kids

It’s very important to find the mattress that supports the kids’ growing bodies the best, while also allow them to move and switch sleeping positions through the night – as we all do. We also all need our good sleep during the night – but for kids, it’s even more crucial to be well-rested and ready for the next day. In our case – having neurodivergent children – it’s paramount. When they don’t get their good night sleep, the following day goes off the cliff – and trust me, no one wants that. It’s stressful for the child and everyone else involved in their day. So we do everything to ensure they get their restful sleeping hours (means spending 10-12 hours in bed) and the mattress plays an important role in that.

During night time don’t just get enough and quality sleep, but resting in a comfortable and supporting sleeping position is helping to repair their growing joints, bones and their brain. A good mattress also protects their back and spine.

Longevity and the lifespan of the mattress also something to consider when buying a new mattress for kids: with a little more money invested in a premium quality mattress you can lean back for at least 10 years: no need to replace the mattress and this also has environmental benefits, since you can keep it going longer.

About Origin Hybrid Pro Mattress

Origin’s mission is to improve sleep by focusing on what truly matters: the products and the technologies behind them. Origin was founded in 2018 in Germany – and we all know that German technology is world-leading in every aspect of life. (I always choose German designs if I have the choice, they never disappoint!) They grew rapidly thanks to their cutting-edge mattress production and popularity, so now they are present in United States of America, Singapore, Australia, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Taiwan and the United Kingdom as well.

The mattresses and the technology behind them are designed by a team of experts that include innovative engineers and medical therapists like physiologists and chiropractors. They constantly work to improve the technology they use and so the products just get better and better as well.

Sustainability efforts

Of course, sustainability efforts of any brand I review are core values for me. I need to be sure, that the brand is on board with my efforts of making the world a better place and preserving it for the younger generations.

At Origin they implement the following protocol:

  • All of their returned mattresses are donated to the British Heart Foundation, so they won’t go to landfills
  • Origin plants a tree across the UK for every mattress sold
  • Origin mattresses are made with special eco-friendly blends developed in-house

What I’d like to add to this, is that every time we purchase something and we keep it in use a long time – is already an eco-conscious purchase decision. The opposite of fast fashion, fast food, fast anything. It is because the more use you get out of something, the better for the environment. The better the quality, the more likely we can use something for a long time.

The multi-award winning mattresses received numerous recommendations from the Good Housekeeping, TechRadar, GQ and Good Design Award in a space of a few years.

Review Origin Hybrid Pro Mattress – What I thought about it

I received the Origin Hybrid Pro to review. This mattress went into my boy’s room as he’s the most problematic sleeper in our house. He struggles to fall asleep (has ADHD, ASD and on ADHD meds which they sometimes keep him awake longer. He takes natural melatonin but it’s not actually having any effect on him) and sometimes up late – but once he’s asleep he’s fine. Then, he struggles to wake up in time for school. The cycle resulting a tired child over weekdays.

About the Origin Hybrid Pro Mattress

An upgrade from the Hybrid, the Hybrid Pro offers double the pressure relief and cooler, more tailored support.

  • 8 Comfort Layers
  • Enhanced Pressure Relief
  • Ultra-Cooling Graphite
  • Extra Plush Pillowtop
  • Premium Latex
  • Bamboo-Infused Wool

They offer 15 years of guarantee (which is really proving they are certain about the quality of the product) and 200-night free trial (again, that’s over half a year!) RRP is £961 – but they have a sale on currently with a whopping 45% off the price.

What I thought about it

Came in a neat cardboard box and the first thing that struck me how heavy the mattress is – all that things built in there make it heavy. Unrolled it and set it up – this was ok on my own. It’s tall, the 8 layers of making this premium mattress up add up in height. The first time I sat on it I immediately thought it’s like the best of the best hotel mattresses! (I used to work in 5* hotels, I know what I’m talking about!) Even better than that. Hard to describe it because it’s equally soft to your body and firm at the same time. It’s very, very comfortable.

The top layer is Tencel – and I adore Tencel, it’s my favourite eco-friendly man made material (it’s made of natural cellulosic fibers derived from wood pulp that are soft, sustainable and versatile). Love it. Furthermore, The Origin Hybrid complies with CertiPUR-US® and CeriOEKO-TEX®.

The core consists of a mix of sustainable, natural materials and premium metal: Graphite Crystal Latex, HexaGrid Plus, Bamboo-Infused Wool, ErgoCoil Steel MicroSprings, Cooling Comfort Foam, Aerospace-Grade Titatanium Springs, D-3 Edge Support.

The firmness level is just right, not too soft and not too hard. The cooling graphite crystal latex layer works really well for him too as he tends to overheat and then wake up in sweat. This is because he has he’s weighted blanket on most nights when he goes to sleep as he feels cold when getting into bed, but of course when falls asleep he quickly overheats. The cooling effect was working very well and made a big difference. Finally, to me another important feature is that it’s hypoallergenic – since the child used to have eczema, anything that helps to avoid further allergies is great!

The boy reported “insane comfiness” over the first week of testing. This is great, because we are really keen for him to get more sleep, which is happening already, as he seems to be drifting off easier than before. He’s a skinny child and so the mattress is perfect for his bones and back, anything less in quality would not be enough. (He’s most impressed my the aerospace quality titanium in his mattress, by the way.)

Next week – I will add the review of the Origin Hybrid too. Keep an eye out!
