Why ethical jewellery

I’ve previously written about how mining precious stones have an impact on both the environment and the local communities where mines are based. When buying ethical jewellery, it’s important that it has been sourced and produced in a way that is sustainable. Equally, it’s vital that it does not cause harm to those involved in the process of its creation.

Review: Wolf & Gypsy Ethical Jewellery

I received this gorgeous piece from Wolf & Gypsy Jewellery. I picked the Kali necklace of their collection of necklaces (they design necklaces, rings, earrings, bangles and more!) that symbolises the cycle of life and rebirth. Kali, whose name means ‘time’, is the Earth mother of natural forces that either build or destroy.

Even in destruction, however, she reminds us that good really can come from bad. If you find your hopes and dreams have been crushed, Kali can change the cycle and produce life out of nothingness. Where there is sorrow, she dances to bring joy. Where there is fear, she dances in courage. I absolutely love a piece of jewellery with some story and meaning behind it. The story of Kali really is very relevant to me.

About Wolf & Gypsy

Wolf & Gypsy ethical jewellery is beautiful. Made from sterling silver, gold vermeil, 14ct gold, ethically sourced, conflict-free gemstones (moonstone, topaz, turquoise, emerald and diamonds) that are handpicked by the designer Tori Shay herself in India.

They also source recycled sterling silver and gold. Using recycled precious metal naturally reduces the demand for newly mined ones. This reduces the environmentally damaging effects of mining practices. Recycled metals have the same quality and characteristics as the newly produced ones. This is because of the nature of these precious materials.
